A Snapshot Of Our Church History.......
In the early to mid-1960’s, some of the elder members of Clear Spring Church Of God In Christ in East Texas, who lived in Canton, Texas, became too old and feeble to travel. Therefore, to worship closer to home, they purchased an old army barrack building and worked out a church in the Wynn Community of Canton. They named the church Evangelist Temple Church Of God In Christ. Elder Allen was the first Pastor.
There was a young evangelist by the name of Bro. Stanley McGee, Sr. who lived in Tyler, Texas and worshipped at the Oak Grove Church Of God In Christ located in Tyler. He was married to Carrie McGee, and together they had seven (7) children. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Lord led him to relocate from Tyler to Dallas, also moving his membership to a local church in the city. In October of 1968, Supt. J.I. Bonner received a call from the members of Evangelist Temple, asking if he would send them a pastor. Supt. Bonner was familiar with and knew Bro. McGee. After prayerfully consulting God, he spoke with Bro. McGee. Bro. McGee, after seeking God's direction, accepted the request to serve as Interim Pastor until they could find a permanent replacement. Many years later, including four (4) more children, Elder Stanley McGee, Sr. was still there, preaching, teaching, and expounding the Word of God. Under his ministry, God saved and filled with the Holy Ghost most of he and Sis. McGee’s children. Two elders were birth out of this family and into the ministry: Elders Stanley Jr and Kelbert McGee.
After the demise of Elder Stanley McGee, Sr. in June of 2014, his wife, Missionary Carrie McGee, was appointed overseer of the congregation with the assistance of their two sons, Elders Stanley Jr. and Kelbert McGee. In January of 2015, Elder Stanley McGee, Jr. was installed as Pastor of the Evangelist Temple Church Of God In Christ by Bishop Nathiel Wells. The installation came by the recommendation of Supt. Charles Craig and with the approval of Bishop J. Neal Haynes, who passed away before he could perform the inauguration.
Pastor Stanley McGee, Jr. was married to Sis. Mary McGee (affectionally known as “Sue”) until her demise on July 12, 2024. They have four children: Tequila (Derrick), Mya (Chris), Roddrick, and Jacorey (Kesha); and twelve (12) grandchildren.
Missionary Carrie McGee entered into eternity in September of 2019. The late Elder & Missionary McGee left behind a large family and a legacy of HOLINESS. They built a foundation rooted and grounded on the Word of God, which to this day, is still standing firm. The chief cornerstone is still JESUS, and “Yes Lord” is our surrender phrase. We praise with a purpose, and shout in victory. “Hands go up, Praise get loud”….
